Kinesiology Taping Course – Correctional Technique to treat shin splints

This week on Vivomed’s Kinesiology Taping Course blog we will look at the Correctional Technique applied to the Tibialis anterior muscle to help treat shin splints.

The Tibialis anterior muscle aides in the activities of walking, running, kicking a ball, or any activity that requires moving the leg or keeping the leg vertical. It functions to stabilise the ankle as the foot hits the ground during the contact phase of walking and acts later to pull the foot clear of the ground during the swing phase.

The main principle behind the correctional technique is to create a strong re-positioning of tissue and structures.

This tends to be achieved using 50% – 75% stretch on the tape.

With the correctional technique the tissue will be drawn towards the base.

Having completed the appropriate assessments make a choice of application.
